Superior Tube welcomes Congressman Ryan Costello

On Wednesday, 3rd August, Superior Tube had the pleasure of welcoming Congressman Ryan Costello and his District Director, Kori Walter, to its Collegeville facility.

The visit began with the two visitors being introduced to the company’s senior management team and given an overview of Superior Tube and its business, including its relationship with UK-based sister company, Fine Tubes, and their joint position as part of AMETEK, a leading global manufacturer of electronic instruments and electro-mechanical devices with annual sales of $4.0 billion.

Following the presentation, Congressman Costello and Mr Walter were given a tour of the plant and shown the sophisticated processes that Superior Tube uses to manufacture a wide range of high-performance stainless steel, nickel alloy and titanium tubing for some of the most critical applications in a number of different markets, including aerospace & defence, medical equipment, nuclear power, oil & gas, and chemical processing.

Following the tour, there was an informal session with the Superior Tube employees. The Congressman gave a short speech after which he kindly spent time answering questions from the floor.

At the end of the visit, Congressman Costello and Mr Walter were each presented with a copy of Superior – Land, Sea, Air, and Space, a richly illustrated book that tells the story of Superior Tube since its foundation in 1934.

Kevin Heaphy, Superior Tube’s Director, Strategic Business Development, commented: “We were delighted to have the opportunity to meet Congressman Costello and Mr Walter and show them around the Superior Tube plant. We think of ourselves as being very much a part of the local community and it’s important to us to maintain close contact with our elected representatives.”

The representative for Pennsylvania's 6th congressional district since the 2014 elections to the United States House of Representatives, Congressman Costello was Chairman of the Chester County Board of Commissioners from 2013 to 2015. He also has a particular connection with Collegeville. Before studying at Villanova University School of Law, he attended Ursinus College which is located very close to Superior Tube’s premises.

The history of Superior Tube is a history of ‘firsts’. In every decade since it was founded, the company has pioneered the use of new tubing materials and the development of innovative tubing technologies to meet the most demanding requirements of customers who were themselves often breaking through the scientific and technological barriers of the day – from the Manhattan Project, where mankind first learned to harness the energy of the atom, to the USS Nautilus, the world's first nuclear-powered vessel, to the Bell X-1, in which Chuck Yeager became the first man to break the sound barrier, to the Apollo Project, which put the first man on the moon.

Today, the company’s manufacturing staff, metallurgists and engineers continue to work very closely with customers from across the industrial spectrum to ensure that their requirements, however exacting, are still being met.
